Hong Kong actress/pop star Sammi Cheng is set to receive the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award at the 11th Asian Film Awards (March 23).

With 24 films under her belt – including 8 with director Johnnie To – Cheng is one of Hong Kong’s most popular actresses. Her latest film is romantic comedy Love Contractually, and she’s rumored to have joined the cast of Adam Wong’s 少女時代.

Cheng is the second Hong Kong special prize winner at this year’s award. Director Tsui Hark will be receiving a lifetime achievement award at the ceremony.

After two years in Macau, the Asian Film Awards returns to Hong Kong this year. It will be held for the first time at the Hong Kong Cultural Center, the same venue as the Hong Kong Film Awards.
