The Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, Canada has announced the first wave of titles for its 21st edition (July 21-August 2).

The festival will open with the North American premieres of South Korea’s The Villainess (악녀) and Takashi Miike’s Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable (ジョジョの奇妙な冒険 ダイヤモンドは砕けない 第一章), based on the popular manga series. The former has its world premiere in May as a midnight screening in Cannes and the latter will have its world premiere at the Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland later this month.

Other Asian titles included in the announcement include two new works by Mind Game (マインド・ゲーム) director Masaaki Yuasa: the international premiere of Night is Short, Walk On Girl (夜は短し歩けよ乙女) and the North American premiere of Lu Over the Wall (夜明け告げるルーのうた). The latter film is playing in the competition of this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Other films announced include the world premiere of Géla Babluani’s Money’s Money, Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and a lifetime achievement award for American indie director Larry Cohen.
