Dangal (दंगल) continues its amazing run at the China box office, taking the top spot for the second consecutive weekend.

With a week-on-week rise of 3% in its third weekend, Dangal earned an additional RMB236 million (US$34.2 million) from approximately 7.7 million admissions in its third weekend. it retained a strong average screening share of approximately 22.9% over the weekend.

The Nitesh Tiwari film has earned RMB776 million (US$112.7 million), becoming the eighth highest-grossing film in China this year.

With a screening share of approximately 23%, sci-fi thriller Life opened in second place, earning RMB90.4 million (US$13.1 million) from approximately 2.85 million admissions over its first three days on release, surpassing its opening weekend in North America. However, its chances of surpassing its US$30.1 million North America gross in China remains uncertain.

Russian superhero film Guardians (not to be confused with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is still playing in Chinese cinemas) opened in fourth place. With an average screening share of approximately 10.8%, the 3-D release earned RMB15.7 million (US$2.28 million) from approximately 492,000 admissions.

Wine War (搶紅), the feature film directorial debut of pop star Leon Lai, was dead on arrival with a fifth place opening. With a screening share of approximately 11.1%, the heist comedy made only RMB13.09 million (US$1.9 million) from approximately 451,000 admissions over its first three days on release. The film currently holds an average rating of 3.3 on social media site Douban.

Produced by Hong Kong’s Media Asia, the film stars Zhang Hanyu as a driver who is tasked to steal  a valuable bottle of red wine with the help of his best friend, played by Lai. The Hong Kong superstar had previously directed several music videos and musical A Melody Looking, produced to promote the pop singers under his record label.

A Monster Calls opened in sixth place, earning RMB10.8 million (US$1.57 million) from approximately 361,000 admissions over its first three days of release. The fantasy drama had a screening share of approximately 6.5% over the weekend.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has earned RMB653 million (US$94.7 million). The Fate of the Furious has earned RMB2.66047 billion (US$386 million).

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, God of War (蕩寇風雲) and Didi’s Dreams (“吃吃的愛) open this weekend.
