The only annual Asian cinema film festival in Poland, the Five Flavours Film Festival is entering the Asian cinema distribution game by establishing its own distribution label.

The festival says that very few Asian films receive theatrical release in Poland, and those that do are relegated to limited arthouse distribution. Therefore, it aims to fill the void by entering the market as a distributor so that more Asian films will be exposed to Polish audiences.

Five Flavours’ first release will be the Philippines’ Apocalypse Child, the winner of the best film award at last year’s festival. Mario Cornejo’s coming-of-age drama is about a surfing instructor who believes that he’s Francis Ford Coppola’s illegitimate son and a congressman’s wife who takes lessons from him. It is scheduled to be released on October 6th.

The label has also nabbed distribution rights for Bhutan’s Honeygiver Among the Dogs and Indonesia’s Director’s Fortnight title Marlina The Murderer in Four Acts (Marlina Si Pembunuh Dalam Empat Babak). The label says that it is planning to release both films by early spring 2018.

Meanwhile, the 11th edition of the Five Flavours Film Festival will be held from November 16-23.
