Popular South Korean actor Kim Joo-hyuk died in a car crash in Seoul on Monday afternoon local time. He was 45 years old.

According to local media reports – including video from another car’s dashboard camera obtained by one organization –  Kim’s car stopped in the middle of a crowded road before suddenly taking off, hitting another car before crashing into the wall of an apartment complex. His car overturned and rolled down the steps of the building entrance before catching fire. According to the police, witnesses say that Kim showed signs of having chest pain.

The son of actor Kim Mu-saeng, Kim Joo-hyuk began his acting career in 1998. His film work include The Servant (방자전), The Beauty Inside (뷰티 인사이드), Like for Likes (좋아해줘), The Truth Beneath (비밀은), and Hong Sang-soo’s Yourself and Yours (당신자신과 당신의 ). He’s also set to appear in two upcoming films: Period film Heung-bu (흥부) and the Korean remake of Johnnie To’s Drug War (毒戰).

In Asia, Kim is also known for his television work, including the third season of variety show 2 Days & 1 Night.

Kim’s death has sent a shock wave through the Korean entertainment industry. The photo session at the preview screening of the upcoming film The Bros (부라더) was canceled. Actor Choi Min-sik also offered his condolences at a screening of his upcoming film Heart Blackened (침묵). A press conference for The Chase (반드시 잡는다) set for Tuesday has also been canceled.
